In 2005, 5 years after social media sites like bolt.com and the arrival of sms text messaging for marketing, digital sports marketing began to incorporate thing like sms text messaging and community sites.
Digital sports marketing has benefits for athletes, rights holders, sponsors and fans. In fact ‘brand to fan’ communication is becoming easier everyday with tools like facebook fan pages, youtube channels, iphone apps and more pervasive tools like sms text messaging.
In 2005, we helped the american le mans series to add mobile to their digital sports marketing mix. Fans of the motorsport series were able to download mobile wallpapers of cars to their phones and receive sms text message updates of race results.
Also in 2005 we helped texaco havoline to use digital sports marketing to achieve better sponsorship activation and awareness than ever before using a combination of web, sms text messaging and traditional promotional activity.
Now another 5 years on and we are applying what we have learnt with brands like MotoGP, NASCAR, Manchester United and Turner Sports to new digital sports marketing challenges in motorsport, sailing and action sports.
